Moona Wu (Artist)
Using the arts to express Southern local color
Moona Wu is a published Chinese author and illustrator who has lived in the U.S. for more than 20 years. She has published eleven books in China and two English books on Amazon. Currently, she is a column writer and illustration with an American-Chinese newspaper (Washington Chinese Daily), which serves the Chinese community in the Washington, DC, Virginia, and Maryland areas. Most of her columns are about the lives and careers of Chinese immigrants in America.
Moona grew up in Chongqing, China. After she arrived in the USA, she earned her MBA degree as well as a web programming certificate. She had been engaged in a variety of occupations, such as a web developer, accountant, and dance teacher.
She enjoys expressing her inner feelings with colors and lines. Occasionally, when her literary work has encountered a bottleneck, she turns to expressing her feelings in painting. She understands that when words can’t express the chaos around us, art has a power of its own.
Living in South Carolina for many years, Moona likes to use the arts to express Southern local color, such as landscapes and iconic plants, like oak trees, crepe myrtle, and muscadines. Many of her novels and short stories are set in the deep south.
