Another History of Three Kingdoms

Author: Han, ShanKe & Zhou, Dahuang

A Brief Introduction

Han Shanke’s new book, the history of the Three Kingdoms, was originally called Anti Three Kingdoms. It is a novel that is quite different from the famous Chinese novel “Romance of the Three Kingdoms”. This book does not criticize the fiction of the plot of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms but sets different plots with unique ideas, which gives a unique imagination and interpretation of the development of history. Moreover, this book also shows readers another side of the Three Kingdoms era in China.

This book starts from the 36th chapter of the “Romance of the Three Kingdoms”, “Xu Shu enters the garrison base of Cao Cao”. In Zhou Dahuang’s works, Liu Bei had three major military counsellors who were Kong Ming, Pang Tong and Xu Shu. In the novel, Pang Tong revives. Instead of working in Cao Cao’s military base , Xu Shu worked full-time in Liu Bei’s base.

With the development of the story, Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, Zhao Yun, Ma Chao and Huang Zhong were all the great generals who can be on their own. They had won every war when Liu Bei died, Liu Chan, his son, was assassinated instead of being a national slave, so the descendants of Liu family had the chance to revive the Han Dynasty.

Currently, some scholars believe that the book “let a group of historical heroes to fulfill the dream of national unity”. This book reposes the chivalrous dream of Chinese literati for thousands of years.
